Book Donations

Everything you need to know about donating books to Slater Library

Donated Books should be:

·         Pristine

·         Recent

·         No textbooks

·         No encyclopedias

·        No magazines

When you donate, remember

Donating a book does not mean it will enter the collection.

Once you donate a book, you’re done with it.

Many donated books will be recycled.

Wherever you donate:

·         ASK FIRST

·         DO NOT Leave donations after being told they will not be accepted.

DO NOT leave donations in Library book return bins.

Other Ways to support your library:

Libraries are so much more than books. The best way to support your library is to have a library card, join the Friends group, give cash donations and advocate for libraries with your elected officials.

Why the library might not want your books:

·         Libraries need to consider the cost of materials and labor.

·         Many donations are in bad condition.

·         Libraries cannot be sentimental about books.

·         Restrictions due to shelving and space.

Other places you can donate:

·         Add your books to a Little Free Library

·         Schools/teachers

·         Hospitals

·         Shelters

·         Retirement homes and nursing homes

·         Literacy programs

·         After school/Daycare programs

·         Senior Centers

·         Prison Libraries

·        Ask at local laundromats or other local places if they have a book swap area.
